So...first day of classes, yay. Rant teims startiiiiiiiiing....now!
( The good )
( The bad )
( The irritating )
In other news, I asked the mail room today if they were hiring students and they were ambivalent about me until I said I could work Saturdays. Then he seemed more eager, and told me to come back thursday. So I may (hopefully possibly pleasepleaseplease) have a job - now granted one that would require my working tuesday and thursdays before I go to japanese and possibly every saturday for the rest of the semester, but damn it it is a job and a paying one and I'm sure I could find a sub for the one time when I think I wont be here on a saturday which is katsucon. |

it's official.
doubles = love.
And for once, I'm not talking about Prince of Tennis. Shocker, I know.
So at like 7 this morning, when I'm finishing my breakfast and about to head out to my early-morning work shift, I'm flipping through the paper. And I stumble on the article by our usual gay-rights columnist. The header?
"Doubles Tennis better than Therapy"
So of course I read it.
The whole thing - the whole damn thing and this is by someone who I doubt even knows what prince of tennis is - is about how the author and her girlfriend have been together 24 years, play doubles tennis, and credit it as one of the reasons their relationship works out so well. That playing doubles strengthens relationships. It ends "In thennis and life, there's simply no joy as special as having a life-long doubles partner."
I cut the article out. I am bringing it to college.
XD I love my life. |

| General update on life, the universe and other random things |
[May. 31st, 2009|05:17 pm] |
It is may 31st, and it's a lovely 55 degrees outside. wtf, rochester. not okay.
I am also now nineteen and rather bemused by it. (we also now have copious amounts of cake in the house, which is not necessarily a good thing).
I've discovered an untold love for sundried tomatoes and cheddar cheese on toast. I don't know where it came from.
My cat is sick, has to be forced to take his antibiotics, which are not helping and he also now has no appetite. We think he may need an xray which will lead to possible surgery which is a problem because I've used up all my employee benefit money at the vets and thus convincing my dad to pay for such things is going to be a long and very very difficult battle which my mother and I may or may not win.
Between random jobs for my dad ( 9$ an hour) and lots of hours at the vets in june (7.37$ an hour) I think I will manage to not go bankrupt between travel from pinewoods and otakon and also other varying expenses from otakon. yaaaaaaaay employment.
On that note, I still dont have any idea how I'm getting from pinewoods to an amtrak station, as noone is returning my emails. I want cheap tickets damnit, and that means planning ahead. RESPOND, PEOPLE.
I am currently on episode 64 of the Prince of Tennis anime, and have made no progress with haruhi or xxxHolic (what else am I supposed to be watching? oh yeah, code geass). As my father has yet to get my bike down from the ceiling of our garage, I have not yet made it to barnes and nobles to read my way through the PoT manga. need to get on that - It takes an hour to walk to pittsford plaza and while, yes, I do in fact have that kind of free time at the moment, I'd much rather bike it.
I have also corrupted one friend here at home to not only PoT in general, but also the musicals. She has finished the manga. I have sent her roomates arc. She agrees that Dream Lives are possibly the most amazing things known to man (fangirl). We're making progress.

| random-ness, yay |
[May. 14th, 2009|11:50 am] |
So, I'm mostly unpacked. Still have various piles of shit-that-I-don't-need-till-next-semester, but we haven't found anywhere to put those yet, so they're just going to stay piles of shit-that-I-don't-need-till-next-semester.
There is a lot of stuff I should be doing right now, namely calling two of my friends, a neighbor, and bath and body works to see if i got a job there, also I need to make up flyers for babysitting/petsitting, and I desperately need to organize my closet now that all the crap that I brought back from college is back in it....but instead I'm reading fanfiction and posting. XD yay, priorities.
So, because I'm trying to get all of my various writing tidbits up online, for absolutely no reason whatsoever, I present my college essay. In 11th grade, our teacher had us doing a lot of practice college essays, and this was one of them. It was left virtually unchanged when I attached it to the common app and sent it in the next year.
( so just in case any of you were wondering how I managed to get into Bryn Mawr.... )

well, I'm home.
I am not, however, unpacked. Somehow, moonlightlady14 managed to fit the entire contents of my dorm room in a...god I think it was a camery? I dont know cars at all...anyways, she managed to get all my crap into the rental car, and then (after lunch and slightly frazzled/tearful goodbyes to hyoutan , cuheryn and faded_lace ) me and my mom headed out for the 6 hour drive back home.
An eternity of trips up and down the stairs later (not helped by my cat yowling and winding round my ankles) I had all of aforementioned crap in my room. This meant my bed was covered, and I could not get to one of my closets and a window.
I have cleared off the bed. I have a massive pile of laundry sitting by the door, a pile of I'm-going-to-deal-with-that-tomorrow-dammit and a pile of crap-I-dont-need-till-next-semester. and a pile of shit-that-is-still-in-bags.
and I can't sit on my chair.
-.-
I'm going to bed

wow. just....wow.
Everytime I get looked at odd for still being a hardcore fantasy fan, or my dad looks frusturated that I'm still so into manga and anime (I think he's still under the impression that it's just a phase) and I start thinking that I'm into fandom just because it's fun and entertaining....I run into something like this.
and go, oh, yeah. fandom is not just a bunch of screaming, flailing omg-this-series-is-so-awesome! kids, it's people who take the series and really look at it, and analyze it, and come up with something more relevent to the real world then half the stuff they throw at us in class.
well....and it's fun and entertaining. XD |

| damn it, I knew I should've told dad I wanted a mac |
[Apr. 16th, 2009|02:10 pm] |
So, the haverford LLC is all macs. I mean all macs, there isn't a PC in the entire room. And all of those computers have a handy little button at the top of the screen that lets you switch the language that you type in. Not the keyboard, the language. And these are the computers we use to write to our japanese pen pals (in japanese obviously).
So, today, I got a chunk of the way through what I wanted to write back to my penpal (who is a guy, yamashita-san, if anyone cares) and then had to leave for the bus. I figured I'd go to the bryn mawr LLC and finish it later, cause I dont have the ability to write in japanese on my computer (if anyone has vista, a PC, and knows how to do this PLEASE CLUE ME IN). So this afternoon I head over to the LLC and I ask the girl working there if the computers have the ability to type in japanese, and she says yes. So I go in, and they're all PCs but I figure that it can't be that complicated, can it?
Um, yes, actually, it can. >.<*
So I finally get the little language bar to say it's set to Japanese, and I start typing. First thing I notice? All in katakana. And no matter how much I mess with the damn thing, it won't give me hiragana. Next thing? the keybored is...god I dont even KNOW. I hit the 'a' key and get 'chi'.
wtf? EPIC FAIL BRYN MAWR LLC
anyways, so all this means that its going to take me until next tuesday to finish the damn post and I'll just hope that they really dont check the site until wednesdays.....>.<

| um...wow. |
[Apr. 5th, 2009|11:55 am] |
So.....I've been in the Prince of Tennis fandom since oh, mid- february? When I finally sat down and watched "Imperial Match Hyoutei" at Plenary. I've been reading fanfiction since about...mid-march.
I have upwards of 80 links in my 'finished' folder. I know this because I just organized them all by pairing.
To give an idea of how wierd this is, I've been into gundam wing since mid-highschool and have 70-something links for that.
o.O why is this fandom so ADDICTING???? and I haven't even actually seen the series yet! just a few of the musicals! |

| SNOW |
[Mar. 2nd, 2009|09:50 am] |
y'know I came to college to get AWAY from the 7-month-long winters that happen back home. so here I am in pennsylvania, and it's march, and I am so sick of winter, and have memories from my childhood of it being like, february and there being flowers up here, but no. it is snowing like maaaaaaaaaaad. As in, genuine, hard core, rochester-lake-effect snow. I didn't know they GOT that stuff down here. but apparently they do.
on the plus side, my early morning japanese class was canceled and so were my calculus and chemistry lectures. I still have lab, but thats a short walk and a royal pain to make up so it's ok.
so, in honor of the snow day, I present to you the one and only lemon I have ever written.

| my school is awesome. |
[Feb. 18th, 2009|09:48 pm] |
so, my school is well known for its traditions. One of them is called "hell week". It started today. Basically, the freshwomen ask a sophmore (or two) to "hell" them, which basically means they tell us to do all sorts of crazy things. And we do them. and it rocks.
So, tonight, I participated in a reinactment of the lord of the rings, during which I was a ringwraith (and chased frodo aka hannah around the campus center going raaaaaaaaar) an orc (during which I chased frodo aka hannah and erin aka gandalf around one of the dorms going raaaaaaaaaar) and a part of shelob (during which I ran at frodo aka hannah and erin aka sam going raaaaar and then auuuuuuuuugh when the shined the flashlight at us in the basement of the science building).
The elevator was mount doom. frodo and sam had their gay moment. it was fantastic.
tomorrow, I get to dress up as a schoolgirl, run around and take pictures, and get put on trial. Friday I steal a couple oggz (color changing glowing eggs) from one of my hellers, and cloak and get to run around and be a mystic, and then preform the haruhi suzumiya dance. Saturday, I run to the haverford duck pond (probably get thrown in) at 5AM, and then I'm either crashing the local middle school dance, or going to a scottish ball I havent decided yet. Sunday, I'm replacing the flags on top of the great hall with hogwarts flags, and then dress up as a hogwarts student. Monday I'm supposed to take part in the campus olympics and build a trebuchet and lay seige to the campus center (it has turrets, and I have class all day, wtf I dont know if I can do that). Tuesday I stage a yu yu hakusho battle with the trees on merion green. And on wednesday it ends and I have lunch with my hellers at sushi land.
I love this school so much. |

so....katsucon didn't turn out so great.
Don't get me wrong, it had nothing to do with the convention.....its just I got sick about halfway through saturday morning and spend the rest of the day in the hotel room feeling miserable. what I got to of the con I really enjoyed (also got a pre-release of the next fruits basket book which I'm pretty happy about) but I didnt get to go to a lot the panels that I wanted to go to, I didnt get to run around and buy mad amounts of stuff in the dealers room, I didnt get to meet the artists of the webcomics I follow....*sigh* overall the weekend kinda sucked.
and I still have a cold. |

| CON!!!!!!!!! |
[Feb. 12th, 2009|07:47 pm] |
So, this weekend I will be attending (for the first time) KATSUCON!!!!
It will be the SECOND anime convention I have ever attended, the first being a smaller, one-day affair at a local college back home (dont worry tora-con I love you to), and I have been bouncing off the walls all week. We're leaving tomorrow, I'm skipping friday calculus and chemistry for the second time in a row (last week was my grandmother's funeral which, oddly enough, was in arlington as well), and I CANNOT WAIT
*fangirl squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee*
So if any of you are going to be there and happen to spot a girl with mid-length curly brown hair, a Wicked t-shirt, practical sneakers, and a wide-eyed tourist expression it's probably me. |

In other news, my japanese final went fine. forgot three of the kanji, and couldnt remember the days of the month, but other than that it was pretty easy.

Went thrift store shopping with hallmate and alum-friend-from-scottish (apparently I have 'winter' coloring, whatever the hell that means. Dunno where Bri finds this stuff out, really I dont.) found a sweater by express for $5, and bought it, yay.
had lunch/brunch/food.
tried and failed to study for my japanese exam tomorrow.
thus....quotes dump. ( quotes 3 )
